- 'Union reports security problems at Army bases (USA Today) A labor union is reporting significant security problems at seven Army bases where federal contractors are guarding the gates, freeing up soldiers to serve in Iraq. The union says job screening is often inadequate and that security checks at the gates are frequently cursory.
- 'Granbury firefighters rescue desperate hurricane victims (Hood County News) A rescue mission by granbury firefighters was cut short by increasing violence in New Orleans this week. Four local firefighters made 25 rescues by boat on Wednesday in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
- 'Granbury netters crush Crowley (Hood County News) The Granbury varsity tennis team got its first victory under first-year coach Scott Doran Tuesday, defeating visiting Crowley 18-1. The Pirates won all nine girls matches, eight of nine boys matches, and Kayla Bowman and Parker Cheney swept Stephanie Reeves and Nick Ostrander in mixed doubles 8-0.
